Oban is a fantastic location for a day trip. There are plenty of activities to do, the sea air is fresh, and the food is excellent. You can easily spend a whole day here without running out of things to do.
As soon as you arrive in Oban, you’ll spot this distinctive landmark. McCaig’s Tower sits high above the town. You can make the walk up the steep hill in around 30 minutes. Alternatively, if you want to conserve your energy, you can always drive to it instead.
You can climb the tower for free and take in the utterly priceless views. You can see the surrounding islands when the weather is kind. If you’re still in the town at sunset, then this is the best view in town.
The clear waters of the Atlantic are mighty tempting. So, if you can’t resist, you can always go for a wildlife boat trip. It’s a great way to get out and the ocean and marvel at some of the area’s marine and birdlife.
In the centre of Oban, you can find the distillery. It’s one of the oldest producers of single malt whiskey in Scotland. You can visit any day between July and September.
Being perched on the seaside, it’s no surprise that the best food in town is seafood. You can get some amazing meals that feature the locally caught seafood in the area. If you’re looking for something cheap but delicious, then try getting some fish and chips and taking it for a walk along the Esplanade.
Oban is pretty easy to get to from Killin Highland Lodges. You just follow the A85. It takes between an hour and ninety minutes, depending on the conditions. In the course of your drive, you’ll be transported to a completely different part of Scotland, and the scenery the passengers in your car will enjoy along the way is truly mesmerising!
